Ukiah, CA (September 10, 2009) — Through the implementation of emergency notification technology, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has taken a significant step to further protect and better serve area residents. The system, which provides both list and map based communications, was developed by industry-leader Dialogic Communications Corp. (DCC), a PlantCML ® company.

Chosen for its extensive capabilities and long-standing reputation in the public safety sector, The Communicator! ® NXT ™ will give the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office the ability to mobilize personnel, including first responders, local authorities and others in a matter of minutes. The application’s map-driven component, GeoCast ® Web ™, will enable immediate notification of local residents, rapidly providing information or instruction to those inside targeted geographic areas. Proposed uses include inclement weather, hazardous materials spills and missing persons.

“DCC’s emergency notification solutions are a vital addition to our community outreach program,” said Sheriff Tom Allman. “Now, we can serve our citizens even better before, during and after emergencies by providing critical information in a more timely and efficient manner. Residents will be able to take necessary action to safely prepare for or respond to any public safety threat.”

The Communicator! NXT intelligently alerts and assembles key personnel via every possible means (e.g., telephone, cell, email, etc.), filling critical positions based on an individual’s availability, certifications, skills, etc. The map-based functionality of GeoCast Web allows administrators to identify areas requiring communication using digital, street-level maps. All notifications will be routed through DCC’s secure hosting center, giving the department 24/7 access to a large bank of telephone lines.

“Implementing this technology reflects conscientious use of our time and funds,” said Sheriff Allman. “ An informed community is a safer community. This is just one more way we can better serve our residents.”

The telephone number database used by this system currently contains only listed telephone numbers. Homes and businesses with non-published numbers or cell phones (only) are encouraged to contact the department by visiting its website at to have their contact information added. This will ensure calls are received when and if situations, such as natural disasters, prompt the need for community-wide notification.
