Graffiti Trailer June 25, 2009 Sheriff Tom Allman The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with several local organizations, will be launching a Graffiti Removal Team by August 2009. The Employer’s Council generously donated the cost of the trailer, which 101 Trailer & RV in Willits sold at their cost. Other locals that demonstrated their support through contributions of tools, machinery and other supplies were Lost Coast Motorcycles, Kelly Moore Paint, Mendo Mill, and Crawford Signs. The ultimate goal of the Graffiti Removal Team is to have a self contained trailer housing all the tools and equipment needed to paint over graffiti in areas plagued by such vandalism. The plan is to use color matched paint to blend in the repair instead of just changing the written graffiti to "block" graffiti. Block graffiti is typically a square of non-matching paint over the original graffiti which simply causes a new type of visual blight. The Graffiti Removal Team will be staffed with a trained volunteer who will work with individuals either from the community, probationers, community service workers, or Mendocino County Jail inmates that are eligible for community work assignments. With these volunteers and the generous spirit demonstrated by so many in our community, we can rejuvenate these areas blighted areas and restore our beautiful county. Sheriff Tom Allman states “The Sheriff's Office is proud to have a partnership with local businesses and organizations who have a desire to help fight graffiti in Mendocino County. Not a single dime of tax payer money was used to purchase the equipment and get this project started."
