Come to Mendocino County and leave your commute behind. Mendocino County covers more than 3,500 square miles, a beautiful combination of ocean beaches, marshes, rivers, timber and rangeland. Life at a slower pace where you can still find affordable housing. It's also a place where you can get off work at 5:00, and 30 minutes later be dropping your line in the water or climbing a hill on the trail of a big buck. There are nine state parks in the county, numerous county and municipal parks, the Yolla Bolla Wilderness and the Mendocino National Forest, with over 900,000 acres of mountains and canyons with everything from camping, hiking, backpacking, boating, fishing and hunting, to nature study and off-highway vehicle areas. Thinking of A Lateral Move? Lateral doesn’t have to mean “same old, same old.” In Mendocino County, it means knowing that you’re making a real difference in the community, while at the same time enjoying the perks of the great outdoors. In postings like our resident deputy position on our beautiful south coast, you can see peaceful, winding rivers meeting the spectacular Pacific Ocean. Head east for about an hour and you'll find yourself in the Mendocino National Forest. Both the Coast and the mountains have spectacular camping, hunting and fishing opportunities.
A South Coast resident deputy can look forward to the advantages of living in a small community with a diverse population. The spectacular views along Highway 1 along this part of our county are well known and this part of our county has become a popular tourist destination location and a sanctuary to artists. Need more details about the area? Mendocino County is two hours north of San Francisco. The County encompasses more than 3,500 square miles, much of it in timber and rangeland. Sixty miles of rugged Pacific coastline form the western boundary, with the mountains of the Mendocino National Forest marking the eastern boundary. The most valuable agricultural crop is wine grapes, followed closely by timber. Both the Russian River in the south and the Eel River in the north provide drainage, drinking water and recreational activities. In additional to boating and fishing, there are plenty of recreational activities, including hunting, camping, water skiing and off-road vehicle opportunities. With over 65,000 acres of land area, the County population hovers around 70,000 and is concentrated in the four incorporated cities: Ukiah, Willits, Fort Bragg and Point Arena. Are you ready for the next step in your career? The
one that will take you out of the proverbial rat race and make you a real
member of the community? Then come to Mendocino County; get rid of
your commute, get to know a rural county, and know that you can make a
real difference (and snag a 20” brown trout on the weekend).
