| Synopsis: | On 10-14-08 approximately 1210 a.m. Deputy Jason Cox was on patrol in the Hopland area when he observed an SUV traveling s/b on Highway 101. Deputy Cox was following the vehicle when he observed the vehicle cross the center line and fog line several times. Deputy Cox initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle south of Hopland. While contacting the driver Deputy Cox observed two plastic bags in the rear seat which appeared to contain Bud Marijuana. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were detained and a further search of the vehicle was conducted. The search of the vehicle revealed approximately twenty five pounds of packaged Marijuana and two assault weapons one of which was loaded. One of the assault rifles, Norinko Mk90 appeared to have an altered serial number and was found to be loaded The driver who was identified as Javier Cruz 32 of Santa Rosa and the passenger who was identified as Daniel Garcia Tirado 26 of Santa Rosa were taken into custody without incident for the listed charges and booked into the Mendocino County Jail. Both subjects were booked on No Bail holds due to immigration violations.Cruz had prior drug offences and had been deported. Tirado has a prior drunk driving from San Mateo county and is on probation for that offence. |
