| Synopsis: | 10-30-08/1900 hrs Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the west end of Bay View Drive, Fort Bragg regarding two adult males who had fallen off the bluff. The subsequent investigation revealed that Keith W. CAMPBELL and Adam P. PORTALES were standing near the edge of the ocean bluff "play fighting". At some point PORTALES lost his balance and began to fall over the edge, CAMPBELL reportedly reached out to grab PORTALES, this caused both subjects to fall off the bluff approximately 60 feet to the edge of the ocean. Two female friends of the victims who were present and witnessed the incident called 911. Fort Bragg Fire Dept., Fort Bragg Police Dept. and US Coast Guard initially responded. When rescue personnel arrived at the location CAMPBELL was found to be lifeless. PORTALES had suffered severe injuries. PORTALES was ultimately transported via ambulance for medical attention to Mendocino Coast District Hospital. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is continuing the Coroner's Investigation. CAMPBELL's next of kin has been notified. |
