| Synopsis: | On 11/03/08 Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office responded to the Fairbanks Rd. area of Covelo in regards to a court ordered civil stand by. The purpose of the order was to allow a former resident of the home to retrieve personal items, while deputies stood by to keep the peace. Deputies arrived at the home of George Bowen and were met by Dustin Langenderfer and Kenneth Berman. These men had marijuana particles on their persons as well as the strong odor of fresh marijuana about their persons. Deputies entered the residence and found the men had been manicuring marijuana and packaging it for sales. Deputies sought a search warrant for the residence which was granted by a Mendocino County Superior Court Judge. A search of the residence revealed over thirty pounds of processed marijuana, a large portion of which had been packaged for sales. This search also revealed records of sales, scales, packaging materials, several firearms, a concealed weapons permit in the name of George Bowen, and $1,600.00 cash. Also located at the residence was a small "hash lab" which persons had been making concentrated cannabis with. Further investigation revealed Langenderfer and Berman had been employed by Bowen to manicure and package marijuana for sales. While Deputies were serving the search warrant, Bowen arrived at the residence. Bowen claimed protections under 11362.5 H&S (Mendical Mairjuana) however the evidence indicative of sales was overwelming. Deputies arrested Bowen for possession of marijuana for sales, cultivation of marijuana and manufacturing a controlled substance. Bowen was released on a signed promise to appear in the Mendocino County Superior Court. |
