| Synopsis: | On 12/09/08 Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office assisted by Agents from the US Drug Enforcement Administration served a search warrant at 21052 Henderson Road, Covelo Ca., the home of George Benson. The Officers contacted Benson who initially opened the front door then attempted to close the door and retreat back into the residence towards several loaded firearms. Officers forced entry into the residence to detain Benson. Benson resisted the Officers who attempted to detain him, however after deploying a Taser and a physical struggle Benson was eventually handcuffed. A search of the residence and property revealed seven firearms, six of which were loaded, approx. 55 pounds of marijuana (a portion of which was packaged for sale in one pound amounts) and a digital scale were seized. Benson is required to register with MCSO pursuant to section 290 PC and he was found to have not registered one of the vehicles that he currently owns. Benson was arrested and booked into MCSO jail where he was subsequently released after posting $75,000 bail. | |||||||||||||
