| Synopsis: | On 01/06/09 at about 1600 hours Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's office were summoned to assist members of the California Highway Patrol regarding a suspected domestic violence incident where the suspect had fled on foot, near mile marker 102, Highway 101 Piercy. Upon arrival deputies learned a CHP Officer had witnessed the suspect, Andrew Nelson assaulting a female in a vehicle, which was stopped along side Highway 101. Upon contact, Nelson fled into the brush along the Eel River. Deputies continued the investigation and learned Nelson, was in a dating/ live in relationship with the female and the couple had been in Mendocino County attending the parole board hearing for his father, Scott Nelson, who had been convicted of a murder in Mendocino County which had occurred in the late 1980s. Deputies summoned the Mendocino County Sheriff's K-9 Handler Sgt. M. Davis along with his K-9 partner Dutch. Upon arrival a search began of the area. During the search, Nelson surrendered himself upon seeing the K-9. Nelson was found to be on probation within Humboldt County and was booked into the Mendocino County Jail on charges of spousal abuse and violation of probation. Nelson is currently held on $25,000.00 bail. |
