Synopsis: On 12-31-2010 at approximately 1900 the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office was contacted by the missing person's family. Family members advised sheriffs deputies that on 12-31-2010 at approximately 1330 the missing person and his brother arrived in the Jackson State Forest near mile post marker 15.9 on highway 20 near Chamberlin Creek and began picking mushrooms in several locations. They separated from each other during their efforts.

Over the next three days numerous Search and Rescue Teams from Contra Costa,Humboldt, Lake, Marin,Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma Counties along with personnel from the California Department of Forestry, California Highway Patrol, California Emergency Services and various Fire Departments with the assistance from the missing persons family and friends conducted search efforts throughout the area.

On 1-3-2011 at approximately 0900 Missing Person John Bass was located and verbally responsive in an area near the Two Log Logging Road.
Subject Bass's current medical condition is unknown at the time of this release.

The Mendocino County Sheriffs Office and its Search and Rescue Team wish to thank all those agencies and private persons who assisted in this large effort. At one time during the event we had over 180 people involved in the search effort.

The Mendocino County Sheriffs Office would like to remind mushroom hunters to take safety precautions (warm clothes, flashlight, extra food and water) when conducting their endeavors in the forests of Mendocino County.
