Synopsis: On 01/12/11 At about 2350 hours Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office responded to 38 Hopper Ln. Covelo, the home of Franklin Whipple. Whipple was wanted on a no bail warrant charging him with violation of parole, Whipple has a history of violence and was considered armed and dangerous. Upon arrival deputies announced their presence and noticed someone moving through the windows in the rear of the residence. Deputies also found the door to the residence was barricaded with lumber and furniture.

Announcements were made into the residence advising of intentions to enter and arrest Whipple. Deputies were able to force entry into the residence and brought a police K-9 "Dutch" to assist in the search of the residence.

Upon entry, deputies announced the fact they were deploying a K-9 and ordered persons in the residence to announce themselves. While moving through the residence, deputies came to a bedroom door where several announcements were made. Canbria Whipple, a female adult was inside the room and refused to exit the room or announce her presence. The K-9 was sent into the bedroom and bit the female. Deputies took Canbria into custody and continued to clear the residence.

Upon clearing the residence, deputies noticed a closet with an attic crawl space, they attempted to open the lid on the crawl space and found someone was sitting on it making it impossible to open. Announcements were made advising the suspect to come out of the attic. After several announcements deputies began dismantling the lid to the crawl space, at which time the suspect began to run through the attic.

Franklin Whipple ran through the attic for approximately 20 feet and fell through the ceiling into the living room where Canbria Whipple was seated and detained in a chair. Whipple attempted to jump over the female knocking her to the floor. Deputies again deployed "Dutch" who bit Franklin on the arm pulling him to the ground. Once on the ground, Whipple attempted to kick at deputies and the K-9.

Whipple was taken into custody and charged with 148 PC, resisting arrest as well as the parole warrant. Canbria Whipple was arrested on charges of 148 PC and 32 PC harboring a felon.

Both suspects were booked into the Mendocino County Jail on the listed charges.
