Synopsis: On 02/27/12 at about 2130 hours Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office were detailed to the report of men in a vehicle which were parked near Primrose Dr and Primrose Ave. The caller advised the vehicle appeared to have been damaged and one of the men advised they were pistol whipped and shot at by Subject Van Slagle.

Deputies arrived at the location and learned from the victims Troy Barr and Gary Gardner they had been with Slagle throughout the evening and had arrived at his residence off of Primrose Ave. During the evening they played pool and were drinking and smoking marijuana. At some point during the evening, Slagle became angry and a fight broke out between the men. Deputies were also advised the fight was between J Gardner and Slagle. Slagle was punched several times and ran into the residence to get a firearm. Gardner advised Slagle retrieved a firearm from the residence and pistol whipped him causing injuries to his face. Gardner advised Slagle pointed the firearm at the men advising they had thirty seconds to leave or they would be killed. Gardner stated he and the other men at the location ran for their vehicle as Slagle fired off rounds from the hand gun.

Deputies arrived at the residence and heard Slagle running from the residence into the brushy area located to the south of the residence. Slagle is currently on probation in Mendocino County. A search of his residence was conducted however Slagle eluded capture after he ran into the brush.

On 02/28/12 at about 1030 hours deputies responded back to the residence where they located Slagle. Slagle was taken into custody and booked into the Mendocino County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon as well as probation violations.

Slagle is currently held without bail. An investigation is continuing into this crime.
