Synopsis: On 3-16-2012, at about 1200 hrs, MCSO Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Cobb Drive (Willits) regarding an at risk elderly male that was missing.

Upon arrival Deputies learned that a 76 year old male with dementia, and other medical problems, had walked away from his residence at about 1100 hrs. It was feared that due to his medical problems, and poor weather conditions, the elderly male was in danger.

Deputies conducted an immediate search of the residence, the surrounding area and neighborhood but they were unable to locate him. Personnel from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Citizens Emergency Response Team, Mendocino County Probation, and personnel from the Brooktrails Fire Department responded to the area in effort to located the missing/at risk elderly male. A total of approx. 59 Volunteers (including volunteer firefighters) and 7 sworn peace officers participated in this search.

On the above date, at approx. 1715 hrs, the elderly adult male was located by a Volunteer, and her K-9 partner, from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team (following a 5 hours search of the Brooktrails area). The elderly adult male was located as a result of the K-9 partner locating, and following, a scent trail at the end of Brown Court (Willits), down a dirt patch, over a small creek and into a wooded area. The elderly adult male was found to be somewhat confused, wet and cold, but conscious. He was immediately transported to Howard Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation. He is expected to make a full recovery.
