Synopsis: Press Release-Mandatory Evacuation Order
North Pass Fire, Covelo, CA

For Immediate Release-August 30, 2012

In cooperation with State and Federal Fire Management Officials, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is anticipating a partial lifting of the Mandatory Evacuation Order related to the North Pass Fire east of Covelo. Fire Management and Sheriff’s Office Personnel will evaluate the fire pattern and conduct another risk assessment on August 30th. The Sheriff’s Office is considering a partial retraction of the road closures and mandatory evacuation order, related to local residents who live in the area and were displaced by the fire.

This action would allow local residents, after being verified as owning property or residing on Blands Cove Road, Indian Dick Road (USFS Road M1), and Mendocino Pass Road (USFS Road FH7), access to their residences and property. If this retraction is ordered, these roads will remain closed to non-residents, those seeking passage to the Sacramento Valley, and those seeking access to the Mendocino National Forest for recreational use. Only local landowners and firefighting personnel will be allowed access.

Anyone with questions regarding this possible action can contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at (707)463-6536.
