Synopsis: ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:

On 10-03-2012 at 1806 hours the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a residence located in the 3800 block of Radical Ridge Road in regards to a Coroner's Case.

Upon arrival Deputies learned Cal Fire had responded to the residence at approximately 1544 hours in regards to a reported structure fire.

When a Cal Fire Captain first arrived the structure was completely engulfed with flames, soon thereafter resulting in complete destruction of the structure.

During a subsequent investigation by a Cal Fire Prevention Officer, human remains were located within the burnt structure.

The human remains have yet to be positively identified but investigators believe it might be the person who lived at the residence.

The investigation into the cause/origin of the fire is currently under investigation but at this time there are no obvious signs suggesting foul play.

Anyone having information in regards to the fire is urged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Tip Line by calling 707-234-2100.

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE:

On 10-08-2012 the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of a Sonoma County forensic odontologist in identifying the human remains located within the burnt structure.

On 10-09-2012 the results of dental comparisons showed the human remains were that of Courtney James Collins, the person who had lived at the residence for the past several years.

The investigation into the cause/origin of the fire is still currently under investigation and still there are no obvious signs suggesting Collins' death was the result of foul play.

Official results of the forensic autopsy conducted on 10-05-2012 are pending blood alcohol and toxicology analysis.
