Synopsis: On 02/16/2013 at approximately 0011 hours, a Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol within the 30400 block of South Highway 1 observed a vehicle being towed off the roadway by another vehicle. The Deputy made contact with the driver of one of the vehicles who was identified as Luis Alberto Hernandez-Maya.

During that contact it was learned that Hernandez-Maya was operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and there was a false registration tab affixed to his vehicle’s license plate.

The Deputy in turn began the process of completing a citation for release on the above violations and also prepared to tow the vehicle for overdue registration. An inventory search of the vehicle was conducted at that time and resulted in the discovery of a glass methamphetamine pipe.

Hernandez-Maya was then taken into custody for the additional charge. Upon being taken into custody, Hernandez-Maya was found to be in possession of a concealed loaded pistol. Further examination of the pistol showed that the serial number had been obliterated.

Hernandez-Maya was ultimately transported to the Mendocino County Jail. Prior to arriving at the jail and during a prisoner transport exchange, Hernandez-Maya alerted Deputies that he was also in possession of methamphetamine that was concealed in his sock.

Deputies located and seized the suspected methamphetamine. The suspected methamphetamine later field-tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine and weighed 0.3 grams (gross field weight).

Hernandez-Maya was booked on the listed charges and lodged at the Mendocino County Jail in lieu of $15,000.00 bail.
