Synopsis: On 02/16/2013 at 2100 hours Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Windsong Way on the Greenfield Ranch in Ukiah for a reported attempted robbery.

When Deputies arrived they learned that two men had entered into the residence without warning. Both men wore bullet proof vests, camouflage clothing and ski masks. One of the men had a pistol and the other a large D-cell flashlight.

The two suspects were confronted by the 63-year-old owner of the residence. The suspects ordered the homeowner to the ground, but the homeowner refused. The homeowner asked the suspects what they wanted and one replied, "You know what we want."

One of the suspects then struck the homeowner on the head multiple times with the flashlight causing multiple injuries.

The homeowner’s 64-year-old wife, who had been in another part of the residence when the suspects first entered, observed the suspects beating her husband and telephoned the Sheriff's Office. The suspects fled the area on foot after the wife telephoned the Sheriff's Office for help.

The suspects were described as white adult males approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with stocky builds.

The injured homeowner was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. Deputies processed the crime scene and Sheriff's Detectives are conducting further investigations into the incident.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspects were likely seeking processed marijuana or large sums of cash at the residence.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the suspects is encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office Tip-Line by calling 707-234-2100.
