Synopsis: On 05-15-13 at approximately 2230 hours a Deputy Sheriff from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a pickup for a lighting violation.

As the vehicle came to a stop in the 31000 block of Highway 20 an unidentified male passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the darkness. The Deputy detained the driver who was identified as being Donald Gene Bowman.

Bowman reached inside his clothing and refused to comply with the Deputy's verbal commands to remove them and to keep his hands in plain sight. Concerned that Bowman's concealed hands may be in possession of a weapon, the Deputy took control of Bowman's hands and brought him to the ground.

After overcoming significant resistance, the Deputy was able to secure Bowman in handcuffs.

A search of Bowman's clothing revealed a plastic baggie of suspected methamphetamine in the coin pocket of his pants. Another baggie of methamphetamine was located on the ground near the driver's side of the vehicle.

The substance in both baggies (combined gross weight of 7.5 grams) was later found to presumptively test positive as methamphetamine.

Bowman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Bowman was transported and booked into the Mendocino County Jail where he was to be held in lieu of $35,000.00 bail.
