Synopsis: On 05/24/13 at about 1230 hours Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Gravier’s Chevron fuel station in Laytonville, California to investigate a theft from the business.

Upon arrival Deputies learned a male adult had entered the store and had stolen a gas can from inside the store. The subject then walked outside and began soliciting patrons of the business for gas money.

The store owner contacted the subject, Dustin Walding, and placed him under private persons arrest for theft and called the Sheriff’s Office.

While standing by at the location, Walding suddenly fled running across Highway 101 and ultimately into the brush along side the highway.

Deputies arrived and began searching the area for Walding who was located walking alongside Highway 101. Walding thereafter fled to the East up a hill and into the brush.

Deputy Cox arrived on scene with his K-9 partner “Nico”. Deputy Cox located Walding as he was running in the brush and announced the intended release of the K-9 to capture him. Walding surrendered prior to the engagement of the K-9.

Further investigation revealed Walding had entered the business with the intent to commit larceny and Deputies learned Walding had three prior convictions for theft in the state of Florida.

Walding was arrested and booked into the Mendocino County Jail on charges of burglary, theft with priors and resisting arrest. Walding was to be held in lieu of $30,000.00 bail.
