Synopsis: On 9/17/2013 around 6:00 PM the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office received a report of an elderly male adult who went missing from his residence around 8:15 AM, in the 7100 block of East Road in Redwood Valley. Deputies were advised the 72 year old man had dementia and Parkinson's disease, placing him in a high risk missing persons category. Deputies responded to the scene and conducted a search of his residence, property, and area surrounding his property but were unable to locate the man. Deputies initiated a call out of the Sheriff's bloodhound "Red", members of the Mendocino County Search and Rescue Unit, and the Redwood Valley Fire Department to conduct a more extensive search. A command post was set up at the Redwood Valley Fire House.

A Reverse 911 call was sent to all residents of Redwood Valley, Ukiah Valley, and Potter Valley asking for assistance from anyone who might have seen or knew the whereabouts of the man.

Around 9:25 PM searchers located the man, in a vineyard west of his residence along the railroad tracks. He was found to have fallen into some blackberry bushes and was unable to get out without assistance. An ambulance was called to evaluate the man for injuries. He declined to be transported to the hospital and was released to family members to return home.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Redwood Valley Fire Department for their assistance with this call. Their knowledge of the local residents and area greatly assisted in bringing this search to a successful conclusion.
