Synopsis: On 1-28-2014 around 12:42 PM a Mendocino County Corrections Deputy, assigned to supervise a Cal-Trans Inmate Work Crew from the Mendocino County Jail, called to report one of the inmates, Michael Anderson, had escaped custody of the work detail and was last seen on foot, heading north bound on North State Street near Lake Mendocino Drive in Ukiah. Responding Deputies, Cal Fire Prevention Officers, and California Highway Patrol Officers converged upon the area and started a search. Deputies received a tip from a citizen that the suspect fled into a nearby apartment. Deputies responded to the apartment where they contacted the occupant, Jeffrey Chenier, whom they recognized as having an outstanding felony warrant and that he was on felony probation. Chenier attempted to flee out a rear window of the apartment but was arrested before he could escape.

Deputies searched the apartment and found Anderson hiding in a shower stall. He refused to exit the shower when commanded but was arrested and transported back to county jail. On 01-07-2014 Anderson had been sentenced on a felony battery with serious bodily injury case to three years confinement. Under the new AB 109 guidelines he was sentenced to serve time in County Jail instead of in State Prison.

Anderson was booked into County Jail on charges of escape from custody, violation of probation, and resisting arrest. Chenier was booked into County Jail on charges of harboring a fugitive, violation of probation, resisting arrest, and on the outstanding warrant for violation of probation. Both are being held on a No Bail status.
