Synopsis: On 04-01-14, at 0430 hours Mendocino County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center (UVMC) to speak with the victim of a stabbing. The male adult victim reported to deputies that he had been attacked and stabbed with a knife, by an unknown assailant, while walking in the 100 block Laws Avenue.

The victim described his attacker as a white male adult, 20-30 years of age, with a tear drop tattoo below his eye, and a dark colored mustache and goatee.

The victim sustained two puncture wounds as a result of the stabbing. Neither of the wounds were life threatening. The victim was transferred from UVMC to a hospital out of the area for further treatment.

Mendocino County Sheriff's Detectives followed up on the case and discovered blood droplets on a sidewalk near 161 Laws Avenue, Ukiah. On 04-03-14, Detectives received information that led them to believe that Michael France was the attacker. Detectives learned that France had been arrested on 04-02-14, at 1130 hours, in the 21000 block of Locust Street in Willits by Sheriff's deputies. During France's arrest for narcotics related charges and a no bail warrant on 04-02-14. At the time of his arrest Deputies discovered three knives on his person. One of the knives matched the description of the knife used in the attack on Laws Avenue.

Detectives prepared a photo lineup and the victim positively identified France as his attacker. France was contacted inside the Mendocino County Jail by Detectives and was advised that he was being placed under arrest for an additional charge of attempted murder.
